With a new season in Pokemon GO comes a new season in the GO Battle League, and the World of Wonders is no exception. When the new season begins, we’ll have a new series of tournament events and bonuses in the GO Battle League as well.

The Go Battle League lets players compete to increase their rank, and that rank resets at the start of a new season. That means trainers will want to get to battling when the new World of Wonders season begins in the GO Battle League if they want to climb up the ranks. Here’s a look at the GO Battle League tournament schedule and updates for this coming season in Pokemon GO.

GO Battle League World of Wonders Reset Details

When the new season in Pokemon GO begins on March 1, players can expect the following start-of-season updates in the GO Battle League:

• Players will receive their end-of-season rewards for the prior season from the battle screen
• All trainers’ ranks in the GO Battle League will be reset

The rules for ranking up are staying the same this season, so no major changes there.

Go Battle League Schedule for the World of Wonders Season

Throughout the World of Wonders season, we’ll have a packed schedule of different leagues and cups to keep trainers busy with battles. Here’s the full schedule for what to expect with the GO Battle League

Special Events in the GO Battle League World of Wonders Season

During GO Battle Weekend on Saturday, May 4 to Sunday, May 5, players will get special bonuses for participating in the GO Battle League. These bonuses are:

• Quadruple the amount of Stardust from win rewards (not including end-of-set rewards)
• Increased maximum number of sets from five to 20, letting players take on a total of 100 battles during the event period

Players in the Pokemon GO Go Battle League can also expect bonuses for the 2024 Pokemon Europe International Championship, Wednesday, April 3 to Sunday, April 7. During this time, players will be able to participate in ten battles per day rather than the standard five.

Go Battle League World of Wonders Season Rank Up Encounters

During the World of Wonders season for the GO Battle League, players will be able to encounter the following Pokemon in guaranteed Rank-Up encounters:

• Primape (Rank 1)
• Poliwrath (Rank 6)
• Deino (Ace Rank)
• Goomy (Veteran Rank)
• Jangmo-o (Expert Rank)
• Pikachu in a Libre costume (Legend Rank)

Deino, Goomy, and Pikachu Libre can be Shiny encounters.

GO Battle League World of Wonders Standard Encounters

Throughout the World of Wonders Season in the GO Battle League, trainers can encounter the following Pokemon at their designated ranks.

Most of these Pokemon can be encountered in Shiny versions in Pokemon Go, except for those marked with an asterisk.

Go Battle League Cups for World of Wonders

There will be a total of eight different cups during the GO Battle League World of Wonders season. Each cup has different rules and certain Pokemon may be excluded. For the dates that each cup will run, please see the season schedule above.

Here’s what we know about the cups for this coming season.

Electric Cup: Great League Edition

This cup will allow only electric-type Pokemon at or below 1500 CP. The following Pokemon are excluded from participating:

• Stunfisk
• Heliolisk
• Charjabug
• Vikavolt

Spring Cup: Great League Edition

The Spring Cup will allow only water, grass, or fairy-type Pokemon that are at or below a 1500 CP. Pokemon excluded from the Spring Cup are:

• Mantine
• Toxapex

Ultra Premier Cup

For the Ultra Premier Cup, Pokemon have to at or below 2500 CP. Trainers cannot use Legendary or Mythical Pokemon or Ultra Beasts in this competition.

Jungle Cup: Great League Edition

The Jungle Cup will allow entry of Pokemon at or below 1500 CP. The following types are permitted to enter this competition:

• Normal
• Grass
• Electric
• Poison
• Ground
• Flying
• Bug
• Dark

Excluded Pokemon for the Jungle Cup in the GO Battle League are Gligar and Galarian Stunfisk.

Master Premier Cup

The Master Premier cup does not have a CP limit, making it quite the challenge. However, Legendary Pokemon, Mythical Pokemon, and Ultra Beasts are not permitted to enter.

Great League Remix

Pokemon at or below 1500 CP can enter the Great League Remix. Whichever Pokemon are most used by Trainers at or above the Ace rank in the Great League up to this point will not be eligible to participate in the Remix. In addition, these Pokemon are not allowed:

• Wigglytuff
• Lickitung
• Lanturn
• Azumarill
• Umbreon

Catch Cup: World of Wonders: Little Edition

This cup is centered on those little Pokemon you snagged during the current season. Pokemon at or below 500 CP can enter the Catch Cup: Little Edition, and they must be critters you caught during the World of Wonders season.

Catch Cup: World of Wonders: Great Edition

This cup also focuses on the Pokemon you caught during the current season, but with a higher CP cap of 1500 CP. You can only use Pokemon caught during the Pokemon GO World of Wonders season in this cup.

Go Battle League New Attacks for World of Wonders

This season, trainers will be able to use some new attacks in the GO Battle League. Here are the three new fast attacks, along with the Pokemon that can learn them.

Metal Sound

This fast attack has a power of three in trainer battles and six in gyms and raids. It can be learned by:

• Magnemite
• Magneton
• Wormadam (Trash Cloak)
• Bronzong
• Magnezone
• Klink
• Klang
• Klinklang

Psywave

This fast attack has a power of three in trainer battles and four in gyms and raids. The following Pokemon can learn Psywave in Pokemon GO:

Sand Attack

Sand Attack has a power of two in trainer battles and four in gyms and raids. Of the new fast attacks for the GO League, it has the most Pokemon that will be able to learn it. They are:

Go Battle League Attack Updates & Availability for the World of Wonders Season

At the start of the new season, the GO Battle League often makes changes to how moves work in battle. This season has five moves that will be tweaked.

• Shadow Bone will have a slight power increase in trainer battles, shifting from 75 power to 80 power.
• Brick Break will have an energy cost increase and will also now be guaranteed to lower the defense of the opponent by one stage.
• Cross Chop will be increased in power from 50 to 55 in trainer battles.
• Aqua Tail will also move from 50 power to 55 power in trainer battles.
• Water Pulse will increase from 70 power to 80 power in trainer battles and will have a decreased energy cost.

The World of Wonders season will also bring some expansions to which Pokemon can learn certain moves.

• Goodra will be able to learn Aqua Tail
• Empoleon will be able to learn Steel Wing
• Feraligatr can learn Shadow Claw
• Gallade can learn Psycho Cut
• Araquanid can learn Water Pulse
• Throh, Sawk, Krookodile, Crabrawler, Crabonimable, Hakamo-o, and Kommo-O will all be able to learn Brick Break
• Diglett, Dugtrio, Graveler, and Golem will be able to learn Mud Shot

A new season is coming in Pokemon GO, and Niantic just released the first details on what we can expect from the World of Wonders. Per usual, we’ll see some new Pokemon debuts, featured Pokemon for the season, and other surprises throughout the next few months.

When we got the first teaser for the World of Wonders season in Pokemon GO, fans were a bit skeptical given the inclusion of only Kanto Pokemon. However, it looks like the season won’t focus just on Gen 1, with featured Pokemon from across the generations involved in the event. Let’s take a look at what we know so far about the next season in Pokemon GO.

When Is the World of Wonders Season in Pokemon GO?

The World of Wonders season starts on March 1 and will run through June 1 2024. In other words, we’re basically there already!

Events for the next few months will be a part of this season, as will our community days. There are plenty of exciting changes that will keep the game feeling fresh as the season turns over.

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Special Research Featuring Poipole

The Special Research story for the World of Wonders season in Pokemon GO will feature the Ultra Beast Pokemon, Poipole.

According to Niantic, players will “be able to adventure and bond” with this Pokemon across the season. The new Special Research story will be available starting on March 1 and players can claim it at any point until the season ends on June 1.

Pokemon Debuts in the Pokemon GO World of Wonders Season

In addition to Poipole, we will also see the Pokemon GO debut of several Paldean Pokemon as part of our first event in March, the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event.

The debut Pokemon featured in this event are Charcadet, Armarogue, and Ceruledge. A new Pikachu costume is also coming to Pokemon GO in the form of Pikachu in Cap’s hat.

In addition, new Shadow Pokemon will make their debut in Shadow Raids. We will see Shadow Raikou, Shadow Entei, and Shadow Suicine in Five Star Raids, including the debut of Shiny Suicine, Shiny Raikou, and Shiny Entei.

Paid Season Ticket for Pokemon GO World of Wonders

There will be an optional paid season ticket for the World of Wonders season, which includes Pokemon encounters, a new avatar item, and seasonal Timed Research.

The exact details for the ticket haven’t been announced, but if the image from the news post is any indication, we will see Beedrill, Galarian Slowpoke, and Cacturne as part of the paid ticket. It also looks like the avatar item will be a hat themed after Poipole.

The ticket isn’t yet available in the in-app store or Pokemon GO web store, but will likely be available at the start of the new season on March 1.

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Community Day Dates

Get out your calendars, Pokemon GO fans, because we’ve got our next few Community Day dates! We will have Pokemon GO Community Days on the following days this season:

• March 16
• April 7 (Community Day Classic)
• April 20
• May 19

The featured Pokemon for these Community Day events haven’t yet been revealed, so stay tuned for more details!

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Featured Pokemon in Field Research Encounters

With the changing of the seasons in Pokemon GO, we get an influx of different Pokemon appearing as encounter rewards for Field Research. Field Research tasks for the World of Wonders season in Pokemon GO will lead to encounters with these Pokemon:

• Hisuian Sneasel
• Furfrou
• Goomy
• Sandygast
• Jangmo-O
• Dubwool

Of these, only the first three can currently be Shiny in Pokemon Go.

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Featured Pokemon in Wild Encounters

We’ll also see some turnover in terms of the Pokemon that appear in wild encounters across different areas. There’s a lot to cover here, so let’s break it out by the different areas so you know where to go to hunt for all those Pokemon we haven’t seen in a little while.

Pokemon indicated with an asterisk can’t be Shiny, but all the rest are game for your Shiny hunting goals. Every area has “and more!” listed, which means Niantic is keeping a few Pokemon encounter surprises in store for trainers.

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Featured Pokemon in Eggs

Egg-hatching fans, we’ve got some new options for what will hatch from those eggs during the World of Wonders season. Let’s break it down by the egg distance.

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Season Bonuses

Throughout the World of Wonders season in Pokemon GO, trainers will get the following special seasonal bonuses:

• Increased damage for Pokemon participating in raids with friends
• One extra free raid pass per day when spinning photo discs at gyms
• Increased XP for winning One-Star and Three-Star Raids, including Shadow Raids

Looks like this season’s bonuses have a pretty raid-centered theme, so get out there and enjoy your raids if you can.

Pokemon GO World of Wonders Battle League Updates & Schedule

New seasons in Pokemon GO also bring new events in the Pokemon GO Battle League. The new Battle League season begins on March 1 at 1 PM PST.

With the end of the previous season, players will receive end-of-season rewards for the previous season and will have their Battle League Rank reset. Requirements to rank up for this season will be the same as last season.

This season will bring a new schedule for the GO Battle League, as well as new rewards, encounters, and avatar items. It’s so much info, we’re breaking it out into another guide on its own.

The beloved cozy game Stardew Valley is an excellent time for anyone interested in focusing on a small plot of land and building it up to cover it with lush plants, vegetables, and farm animals. While Stardew Valley is great on your own, many fans enjoy linking up with friends in multiplayer.

With the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update on the way, multiplayer in the game will expand to allow up to eight friends to build a virtual farm together. With this change coming to multiplayer, gamers are curious if it will mean anything new for playing Stardew Valley cross-platform.

Can You Play Stardew Valley Cross Platform?

Unfortunately, even though multiplayer is supported in Stardew Valley and will be expanded with the 1.6 Update, we likely still won’t be able to play it across platforms. We don’t have all the details about the 1.6 Update, but so far, no news about changes to the lack of cross-platform multiplayer has been announced.

As of now, Stardew Valley only supports players using the same hardware to share the multiplayer experience. If you and your friends want to play on the same server, you need to choose the same platform to play. There is a lot to choose from, though. 

You can play Stardew Valley on the PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, and mobile. The 1.6 Update is coming to PC earlier than these other platforms, but the updated game will eventually be supported for all platforms – just not with multiplayer across platforms, as far as we know.

How Multiplayer Save Files Work in Stardew Valley

The person who hosts the game will have the save file on their platform, which means that person will have to host and start the game whenever you and your friends want to play it. In other words, choose wisely when starting your game and make sure that the host isn’t your least available friend, or else you won’t be able to hang out together on the farm very often.

This hosting structure also means the gamer who hosts can freely continue to play the game, even without the other players in the game.

Will We Ever Get Cross-Platform Play for Stardew Valley?

At this time, the sole developer of the game, Eric Barone, commonly known as ConcernedApe, has not shared any details about cross-platform play or if he plans to make it happen in the future. Because he is the single developer working on the project, it’s unlikely he plans to drive for it to become a reality.

Barone continues to update Stardew Valley regularly and is working on a new project, Haunted Chocolatier, which has a similar art style and cozy feel. He posts updates about the extended universe of Stardew Valley on his blog.

When is the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event?

The Pokemon Horizons: The Series Celebration Event in Pokemon GO will take place from March 6 – March 11 from 10 AM to 8 PM local time.

This date overlaps with the much delayed US release of the Pokemon Horizons series on Netflix, which means fans in the US will get to enjoy the anime for the first time during this event.

All Pokemon Debuts During the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event

Unsurprisingly, the debut Pokemon for this event come from the Paldea region, which is where the Pokemon Horizons anime takes place. Our Pokemon debuts are:

In addition to these debuts, we’ll also get yet another new Pikachu costume, with Pikachu wearing Cap’s hat making its way to the app. This Pikachu will also know a special new Charged Attack called Volt Tackle.

Featured Wild Encounter Pokemon for the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Event

In addition to the Paldea Pokemon debuts, we’ll see other Paldea Pokemon and a few critters from other gens appearing more frequently in wild encounters. The featured Pokemon from the Pokemon Horizons anime are:

• Scyther
• Nosepass
• Spirgatito
• Fuecoco
• Quaxly
• Pawmi

While Scyther and Nosepass can be Shiny, there still aren’t Shiny versions of the Paldea starters in Pokemon GO.

The Pokemon appearing less often with the “some players might encounter” designation for this event are:

• Beldum

All of these Pokemon do have Shiny versions in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon Hatching from Eggs During the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event

During the Pokemon Horizons: The Series celebration event, Charcadet will hatch from 2 KM, 3 KM< and 10 KM eggs.

Niantic notes that we can also hatch “the usual Pokemon available in those eggs for the season.” Of course, we don’t yet know what Pokemon will be featured during the World of Wonders season, so that statement is a bit vague as of now.

Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event Bonuses

During the event, Pokemon GO fans will enjoy the following in-game bonuses:

• Double XP for hatching Pokemon
• More frequent Team GO Rocket Balloons

Compared to some events, these aren’t the biggest bonuses, but as a rural player whose only chance for at-home interaction is the Team GO Rocket Balloon that hovers near my house, I am excited.

Raids During the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event

Throughout the Pokemon GO event celebrating Pokemon Horizons: The Series, trainers will encounter the following Pokemon in One-Star Raids:

• Pikachu wearing Cap’s hat
• Rhyhorn
• Rockruff

All Pokemon in One-Star Raids during the event can be Shiny.

As for Three-Star Raids, trainers will see these Pokemon during the event:

Field Research Encounters for the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Event

Event-themed Field Research tasks will feature as part of the Pokemon Horizons: The Series celebration event in Pokemon GO. These tasks will lead to encounters with several featured Pokemon, including:

• Pikachu in Cap’s hat
• Golduck
• Skarmory
• Rockruff
• Sprigatito
• Fuecoco
• Quaxly

PokeStop Showcases, Pokemon GO Web Store Bundle, and Surprise Encounters for the Pokemon GO Pokemon Horizons Celebration Event

In addition to all the featured Pokemon, raids, and more, this event will also include PokeStop Showcases for certain event Pokemon.

Trainers who take a snapshot during the event may also get a “surprise encounter” featuring characters and Pokemon from the anime, including our new protagonists Liko and Roy.

Finally, fans can purchase a special Ultra Legend Box from the Pokemon GO Web Store during the event. For a whopping $14.99 USD, trainers can get three Remote Raid passes, ten Premium Battle Passes, and ten incubators. This bundle doesn’t appear to be available in the in-app store.

Today, fans of cozy farming game Stardew Valley got the news we’ve been waiting for – confirmation of the release date for the Stardew Valley 1.6 update. Developer Concerned Ape shared this information on the eight year anniversary of the game’s initial launch, because what better way to celebrate?

Concerned Ape has shared tidbits about the development process and what we can expect from Update 1.6 for Stardew Valley. Fans eagerly accepted each new bit of news while waiting to know when we’d be able to actually play the thing. Now, at long last, we have a release date for the PC version of Stardew Valley 1.6.

Stardew Valley 1.6 Update Will Release for PC in Mid-March 2024

On X, @ConcernedApe shared that we finally have a release date for the PC version of Stardew Valley 1.6, which will come out on March 19 2024. The exact release date for console and mobile versions are still not confirmed, but “will follow as soon as possible.”

As you can already see from the traction this tweet has gained, fans are thrilled to finally have some confirmation about when we can expect this massive update to the game that got many of us into the cozy genre.

At this point, Stardew Valley is a whole lot more than just a game, with the Story of Seasons concert tour, board game, and cookbook, but we’re all pretty excited to see continued support for the game that started it all.

The developer also shared a thank you to the community in honor of the game’s continued success on its eighth anniversary today. The replies are full of fan excitement about the upcoming new content, which Concerned Ape let us know will be pretty robust compared to previous updates. Many are saying some variation of “time to head back to the farm!” and honestly, same.

While we don’t know everything the update will entail just yet, we know that it will add new features to the game from start to finish. The previous update added a new area, whereas this one will add new bits throughout the game, including new story points and new festivals.

Many are planning to start a new game to experience all the new content, and frankly, I’m right there with them. We’ve got a few weeks to wait for Stardew Valley 1.6 on PC and a little longer for the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions, but I think we’re all pretty confident it will be worth the wait.

Developer Concerned Ape built the update while taking a break from their second game, Haunted Chocolatier. While they wanted to give modders more tools to work with, they couldn’t help but add some new game content for players simultaneously.

All New Content in Stardew Valley 1.6 update

Concerned Ape has confirmed the two main elements players should be concerned about with Stardew Valley 1.6. The first is new gameplay content, but not as much as Stardew Valley 1.5 introduced. While the previous update added an entirely new region, update 1.6 will likely simply add more to what’s already in the game.

This brings us to the second new element Stardew Valley 1.6 adds, which is new dialogue. We don’t know how comprehensive this will be, but a few characters will have new things to say to you. We suspect this will be linked to the new game content, potentially a new activity or set of quests you’ll need to complete.

We also know that Stardew Valley 1.6 will bring changes that modders will appreciate. These changes will make it easier to mod Stardew Valley and provide powerful modding tools for those that want to create custom content for the game. While the official new content Stardew Valley 1.6 adds might be lighter than fans want, the new modding tools will undoubtedly lead to hundreds of hours of unofficial content being added to the game.

In a sneak peek post to X in September 2023, Concerned Ape shared a few more additions we’ll see in the 1.6 update for Stardew Valley, including new end-game quests related to Joja Mart, three new festivals (one major, two mini), and a ton of new items and crafting recipes. In spite of previous remarks about the size of the update, it seems that we’ll get a lot more than initially expected with 1.6.

When is the Release Date for Stardew Valley 1.6?

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update will release on March 19 2024 for PC gamers. The exact date for the console and mobile releases of the update isn’t yet confirmed, but Concerned Ape did let us know that it will follow “as quickly as possible.” This most recent update about the release for 1.6 came to us on the eight-year anniversary of the game’s original release, in a tweet from Concerned Ape.

On January 26, 2024, Concerned Ape explained in a Twitter post that the update would be a bit larger in scope than previously suggested, which means fans man not be quite so disappointed with the amount of new content as we may have thought.

Concerned Ape had previously shared that they were working on the update, and fans were pleasantly surprised to hear that the game would get new content despite the developer’s focus being on Haunted Chocolatier. This update, in particular, seems to have been a bit of a palette cleanser from the current project.

The latest news from ConcernedApe is that Update 1.6 will release for PC on March 19 of this year. They’ve also mentioned a potential Update 1.7 for Stardew Valley, but it’s a very vague comment. However, it does show that the developer isn’t discounting the idea of a much larger update for the game immediately, so a big chunk of content could be on the cards once Haunted Chocolatier has been released.

Pokemon Day 2024 Pokemon Presents

The Pokemon Company has officially confirmed there will be a Pokemon Presents on February 27, 2024 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.

The Pokemon Presents will air on the official Pokemon YouTube channel and feature “exciting Pokemon news in celebration of Pokemon Day 2024.” This is the big announcement Pokemon fans have been eagerly looking forward to, and we expect to hear about what’s next in video games, trading cards, and more.

As we learn more about all the ways Pokemon fans can celebrate the franchise in real life, we’ll update this section with all the info you need to take part.

New York City Celebrations for Pokemon Day

The Pokemon Company has announced that the Empire State Building in New York City will be lit up in Pokemon colors on Pokemon Day 2024 to celebrate the day and get fans hyped for Pokemon Horizons to launch on March 7.

Some fans have taken this as confirmation that we’re getting Unova remakes this year, but either way, it’ll be fun to see some Pokemon colors in NYC.

Play Pokemon! Event Celebrations

Participating Play! Pokemon stores across the U.S. will be hosting Pokemon Day celebrations on February 27. The exact events vary slightly by location, but will likely include gathering with other Pokemon fans to play the Trading Card Game, Pokemon GO, and Pokemon video games.

There will also be some promo item giveaways such as Pikachu Moods figures, TCG merchandise, and other fun Pokemon treats. You can check if there’s a participating store near you at the Event Locator from the Pokemon Website.

Virtual Celebrations for Pokemon Day 2024

So far, we haven’t had any major news about how Pokemon fans can celebrate the day online, unless you count attending the Pokemon Presents presentation.

However, the Pokemon social media channels have been full of little reminders that Pokemon Day is coming. This includes a series of Pokemon-inspired art that is being posted every day this week, in the lead-up to Pokemon Day next week.

Pokemon Day 2024 Pokemon GO Events

We all know Pokemon GO loves its events, so there’s bound to be some options for trainers to celebrate Pokemon Day 2024 in the app.

In conjunction with the lighting of the Empire State Building, Pokemon GO fans in New York City will enjoy a local in-game event to celebrate Pokemon Day 2024. This will include special Timed Research tasks that lead to rewards including, of course, a special Pikachu in a party hat. There will also be event-themed PokeStops near the Empire State Building throughout the day on February 27.

We don’t yet know if and how Pokemon GO fans outside New York will be invited to celebrate, but we’ll keep you updated when we find out more.

On February 26, Niantic released a teaser trailer for the upcoming World of Wonders season, which starts on March 1. Very few details were included, so we may expect to hear more about the upcoming season during Pokemon Presents. Whether this will include anything exciting for the day of, we don’t yet know.

Pokemon Day 2024 Exclusive Trading Card

Is it really a Pokemon celebration without trading cards? Celebrating Pokemon Day 2024 will yet again include an exclusive Pokemon card for fans to collect.

Pokemon fans who shop online at The Pokemon Center starting on February 23 2024 will receive a special Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Paldean Fates Ceruledge card with a Pokemon Day 2024 stamp. This is a gift with purchase and will be available through March 23 or (more likely) until supplies last. To receive the card, you will need to enter the code pday2024 at checkout.

The Pokemon Day 2024 promo card is also available at select retailers, such as GameStop, BestBuy, etc. The Pokemon Company doesn’t appear to have released an official list of participating retailer, so check in with the stores near you to see if they’re carrying the card.

Pokemon Day 2024 Celebrations in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet will celebrate Pokemon by featuring our favorite critters that are shaped like PokeBalls in mass outbreaks across Paldea.

Voltorb, Foongus, and Hisuian Voltorb mass outbreaks started on February 22 and will continue through 4 PM PST on Pokemon Day 2024. Hisuian Voltorb doesn’t typically appear in the game, so it’s a good chance to log in and grab something you can’t normally get.

Pokemon Day 2024 Announcements

Of course, the big thing many fans look forward to with Pokemon Day each year is the announcement of upcoming Pokemon video games and what’s next for other aspects of the franchise like the anime and trading card game.

While many theories about what’s coming next for the video game series abound, The Pokemon Company has yet to confirm any rumors of what we’ll hear during the Pokemon Presents on February 27.

Many Pokemon Go fans naturally expected an announcement from Niantic as the Sinnoh Tour ends and Pokemon Day approaches. However, the new teaser about the upcoming World of Wonders season has many fans confused.

This morning, the Pokemon Go app pinged us all with an update about the World of Wonders season. To say the update was brief is a bit of an understatement, since the news bulletin regarding the new season is two short sentences: “It’s a wonderful world. Let’s rediscover it together.” This coincided with a tweet from @PokemonGO on X with a short teaser about the new season, and fans have some questions.

World of Wonders Might Be Kanto-Themed Based on Teaser

In their post to X, Pokemon Go shared a short trailer for the upcoming World of Wonders season, which includes familiar Gen 1 Pokemon such as Nidoran and Butterfree.

Given that the most recent season was themed around the Sinnoh region, many Pokemon fans undoubtedly expected future seasons to keep moving forward through the generations. That has us all feeling a bit surprised to see these original Pokemon from the Kanto region in the World of Wonders season preview.

While some fans are enthusiastic about what a new season could bring, others are a bit concerned about the apparent theme. “I hope it’s not three months of only Kanto Pokemon” says one fan, while another jokes “Nidoran and Pidgey community day incoming.”

The new season is set to begin on March 1, so we won’t be waiting too long for additional details about what’s in store. As much as we love the original 151, many early Pokemon Go fans still have memories of just how many Pidgey were around in the early days, and I’m not sure anyone wants (or needs) to revisit that experience.

Given that this is just a short preview and no other details have been released, there could well be some surprises in store for the upcoming Pokemon Go World of Wonders season even with the familiar characters in this brief sneak peek. The mysterious purple energy that appears in the sky suggests there’s a bit more here than initially meets the eye.

With Pokemon Day on the horizon and the start of the World of Wonders season so close, we’ll likely learn more in the days to come. Until then, let’s all cross our fingers for something a little more exciting than three million Pidgeys to send to the professor like the old days.

Red Bull Gives Sephiroth Wings

Red Bull Gaming posted a short video in the iconic Red Bull ad style, featuring Cloud and Sephiroth in battle. Naturally, Cloud gains the upper hand by drinking a Red Bull, as we all know folks in the Final Fantasy universe tend to do.

Honestly, if you wanted our attention, you got it with this unexpected pairing that just kind of makes sense. People have missed the “Red Bull gives you wings” tagline and Sephiroth has wings (well, wing). When it fits, it fits.

Insomnia Cookies Already Knows We’ve Planned an All-Nighter for the FFVII Release

Maybe it’s just because I had a love affair with Insomnia Cookies in my early 20s, but this is the collab that lives rent-free in my head. Cookie company Insomnia Cookies, best known for offering late-night cookie deliveries near college campuses, now has limited-edition collectible Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth boxes.

Customers can order a box of cookies and receive a box with characters from the game plastered on it. There’s even a special Cloud ‘Lil Dipper which is just my favorite phrase of 2024 so far. Of course, I have questions about the true collectibility of boxes that will arrive full of fresh baked cookies and their grease. But since Insomnia Cookie doesn’t deliver to me, that’s for other fans to figure out.

The Final Fantasy VII Cast Learns to Seize the Awkward

I’m all for encouraging folks to be more open in talking about mental health, but I have to admit I didn’t expect to see an ad combining the Seize the Awkward campaign with Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. And yet, this PSA campaign featuring clips from the game does in fact exist.

It’s an unexpected pairing, for sure, but it makes a lot of sense when you think of everything those characters go through.

That Time FFVII Took Credit for A Comet

Yes, this one was a joke, but also, yes, it’s a weird one. @LittleARcanine_, part of the Square Enix team, sent out this tweet suggesting that the marketing team came up with this comet as part of promotion for FInal Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t have “take credit for a comet” on my list of ways I expected anyone to promote a new video game.

Game Better with Butterfinger

Alas, this sweepstakes has already ended, so you can’t enter it anymore, but at this point, Butterfinger collabs with Final Fantasy are a bit of a tradition. Previous games in the Final Fantasy franchise have also teamed up with the “Game Better with Butterfinger” campaign to promote combining candy with gaming. It sounds like a good idea, until you get melty chocolate all over your PS5 controller.

This campaign featured a “Butterfinger Ultimate Gaming Bundle” which included some FFVII: Rebirth merch, a copy of the game, and of course, Butterfinger branded gaming gear. I’m just trying to picture Cloud taking a break for a Butterfinger, and it’s bringing me joy.
